5.3 Program Evaluation
Candidates design and implement program evaluations to determine the overall effectiveness of professional learning on deepening teacher content knowledge, improving teacher pedagogical skills and/or increasing student learning.
Artifact: Technology Professional Learning Project
Reflection:
In ITEC 7460, Professional Learning and Tech Innovation, we were given the task of developing a professional learning plan that would include an interview with the school's principal and a needs assessment survey to determine the current reality of the teacher's professional learning. After the results were compiled, I conducted a Georgia Assessment of Performance on School Standards (GAPSS) rubric to determine the school's professional learning needs. The next steps involved developing the professional learning plan, designing the professional learning sessions and preparing an evaluation plan.
Mastery of standard 5.3 was accomplished through the development of this professional learning project because I designed and implemented program evaluations to determine the overall effectiveness of this professional learning so teachers would gain content knowledge and improve their pedagogical skills thus improving student learning. Learning how to develop an effective program evaluation was very important to me. Effective evaluation was an area that was a weakness of mine when developing classes prior to this project. The next time I offer this professional learning session, I will offer an evaluation after each of the three sessions rather than at the end of the third as I did in this plan. This will give teachers an opportunity to give feedback and share their learning with each other and the facilitator. Initial feedback on these teacher created authentic lessons will occur in professional learning communities where the teachers will be participating in developing lessons to improve their student's learning. Faculty development will be impacted from this professional learning plan. Faculty development impact will be assessed through teacher created rubrics that will evaluate the components of the created lesson. Faculty development will also be assessed through quarterly teacher observations by administrators. Student learning will then be impacted from what the teachers have learned through their professional learning. Student's learning will be assessed through rubrics, unit projects, and assessments.
