Artifact: Online Learning Syllabus
Reflection:
This artifact, Online Learning Syllabus, was created in ITEC 7480, Introduction to Online Learning. I created this syllabus for a future course I hope to offer to educators in our district. This course is designed to assist candidates in how to promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility, model digital age work within student learning, and design and develop digital age learning experiences with their students utilizing learning devices students bring from home, as well as school technology. The digital tools and resources developed in this course include creating a class blog, a wiki to use for a group project, a VoiceThread, a podcast, and a Jing recording will all help to facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity. In addition, a lesson or unit will be developed using at least three of these digital resources to support student learning. This artifact will demonstrate mastery of the 4.3 standard because it involves the use of digital tools and resources that will support diverse student needs as they use different types of technnology that is comfortable for their learning, enhance cultural understanding by communicating with students from other cities and countries, which will also increase global awareness.
During the creation of this online syllabus, I learned about creating appropriate communication accommodations for all participants that will help to make their learning authentic and meaningful. Within my course, communication options include; text or audio discussion board posts and responses, email, and online chat. There is also a "Student Lounge" where participants can communicate about other topics, in addition to coursework. The improvements to this online syllabus would include assignment option choices to allow for differentiation within the class. This artifact will definitely impact faculty development initially as educators complete this course to learn about various tools to use with their students to enhance student learning. I believe that after I teach the course one time, I would also be making changes based on the feedback I received from the participants on questions they may have about the syllabus. This impact of the course can be assessed by the evaluation results. The impact of the faculty development can be assessed through a second evaluation tool that could be administered several months after the course to determine how teachers and students are integrating what was learned in the online class. This evaluation could be designed for teachers and students to complete.
