Candidates model and facilitate the effective use of digital tools and resources to support and enhance higher order thinking skills (e.g., analyze, evaluate, and create); processes (e.g., problem-solving, decision-making); and mental habits of mind (e.g., critical thinking, creative thinking, metacognition, self-regulation, and reflection).
Artifact: Slideshare Classroom Blogging and Emerging Technologies Wiki
Reflection:
Blogging and Wikis are both excellent methods to use in the classroom with students to support and enhance higher order thinking skills. The slideshare was created in ITEC 7430, Internet tools in the Classroom and highlights all of the essential components of using blogs in the classroom. The Emerging Technologies Wiki was created in collaboration with other classmates in ITEC 7445, Multimedia and Design. During the course both artifact development and higher order thinking skills were being used to analyze web design, evaluate information and creation of multimedia to be placed within the artifact.
These two artifacts show effective use of digital resources to support mastery of the 2.4 standard because of the reasons stated above. I learned how easy it was to make slideshare presentations and then how to embed the code in other websites, as well. It was exciting to work on the emerging technologies project with my classmates and see all of the new technologies available for students, as well as teachers to enhance learning. After looking back at the slideshare project, it appeared to be rather dull and too much information per page. Next time, I would limit the information per page for more impact and alternate an image instead of text or link to a video. Student learning could definitely be impacted through the use of both of these digital resources. Students could create slideshare presentations and work on wikis for group projects whether at school or home. Both resources could be assessed through student created rubrics. Wikis could also be utilized to enhance professional learning by having faculties utilize wikis for professional learning communities.
