Artifact: Technology Professional Learning Project
Reflection:
The Technology Professional Learning project was developed in ITEC 7460, Professional Learning and Tech Innovation. This project included an interview with the principal and a needs assessment survey to determine the current reality of the professional learning at one of the elementary schools that I support for instructional technology training. Then, based on those results, I conducted a Georgia Assessment of Performance on School Standards (GAPSS) rubric to determine the school's professional learning needs. The next step involved developing the professional learning plan, designing the professional learning sessions, and preparing an evaluation plan.
This artifact demonstrates the mastery of standard 5.2 because the professional learning sessions modeled principles of adult learning, supported professional learning standards, integrated technology to support face-to-face learning and promoted best practices in teaching, learning and assessment. The development of an effective evaluation plan was beneficial learning for me. Effective evaluation was an area that was lacking before in classes that I had developed for teachers. In the next professional learning plan that I develop, I will not focus on two separate trainings. I think focusing on one software technology will help the teachers in retaining and applying what they have learned. Initially, faculty development will be impacted the most from this professional learning plan. During the course of the year, teachers will be participating in technology training that is authentic and important to them based on the needs assessment. Teachers will be creating authentic lessons to utilize with their students. Initial
feedback on these teacher created lessons will occur in professional learning communities where the teachers will be participating in developing lessons to improve their student's learning. Faculty development will be impacted from this professional learning plan. Faculty development impact will be assessed through teacher created rubrics that will evaluate the components of the created lesson. Faculty development will also be assessed through quarterly teacher observations by administrators. Student learning will then be impacted from what the teachers have learned through their professional learning. Student's learning will be assessed through rubrics, unit projects, and assessments.
