Artifact: Collaborative Group Website ISTE Lesson Plan
Reflection:
This artifact was created in ITEC 7430, Internet Tools in the Classroom. The students worked in collaborative groups to demonstrate their understanding of the science concepts learned during the school year and worked with their group to create a Weebly website. Students also used online subscription resources for their research of their group topic. Each member of the group contributed and had a responsibility for the group project. The closing event of the project was presenting their website with the rest of the class and the other two 3rd grade classes.
This lesson plan fulfills the 3.1 standard because it modeled effective classroom management and collaborative learning strategies to maximize student learning using the Weebly website and various online subscription resources. These students had been working in collaborative groups for other projects throughout the school year. Improvement of this project might involve completing the Weebly websites for each science unit throughout the year rather than waiting till the end of the year for all the units. Then, students could go back and add more information as they find it. Next time, I would also have students create a rubric for the project and evaluate each group's website according to that rubric. Completion of this lesson plan allowed the classroom teacher to see exactly what her students had learned in science throughout the year and how they worked collaboratively. It also allowed the students to collaborate with others in their groups and share with other 3rd grade students and their parents. Student learning was impacted through this collaborative group website project. The impact of this learning was evaluated using a teacher made rubric that included specific guidelines for what each group needed to include in their group website. A teacher made rubric was also used for their presentations to the other third graders.
