Artifact: Content Area Report Language Arts
Reflection:
The content area report brochure was created in ITEC 7400 to provide 3rd grade language arts teachers various tools for integrating technology within their classroom with their students. The technology tools were divided into three categories.
· Productivity tools were available on all computers.
· Research tools included online subscription resources provided by our school district.
· Interactive tools included tools you could use with an interactive whiteboard in their classroom.
All tools were evaluated to determine their effectiveness in supporting language arts standards. The brochure was designed to use as a printed handout or emailed to teachers as an electronic resource.
The content area report demonstrates mastery of standard 3.6 in that I created a grade level and content specific brochure that provided teachers with evaluated digital tools they could use to support teaching and learning with their 3rd grade language arts students. I collaborated with groups of 3rd grade teachers at five different elementary schools, in addition to communicating with the media specialist faciliatator at the district level. During the evaluation, all resources were found to be accurate, suitable and compatible with the technology infrasture at all of our schools. In completing this artifact, I learned our district has many language arts resources available for students to support their standards. In the future, I will not print this document out, but post on a website for all teachers to use as a resource. This brochure was very helpful to many teachers and students. Some teachers posted it on their class websites for their students to access. Students expressed their appreciation for the information that was provided because it was useful for class assignments. The creation of this artifact impacted teachers, as well as students. Many teachers that received this document electronically told me they were able to use it over and over throughout the year. This document also prompted teachers to ask me for training on certain unfamiliar resources. The impact can be assessed by surveying teachers for which tools they found useful. We also have the means to run usage reports on our online subscription services.
