Artifact: Online Learning Syllabus
Reflection:
The online learning syllabus was created in ITEC 7480, Introduction to Online Learning. This syllabus contained essential components to cover a four week online learning course. The components included were instructor contact and communication information, communication guidelines, a description of the course, learning outcomes, performance standards, a course schedule, and class participation expectations. In addition, the syllabus included policies for grading, late work, conduct, honesty and acceptable use. Technology requirements and technology support were also included. I created my syllabus for a future course I hope to offer to educators in our district. This course is designed to assist candidates in how to promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility, model digital age work within student learning, and design and develop digital age learning experiences with their students utilizing learning devices students bring from home, as well as school technology. This artifact demonstrates mastery of the 3.3 standard because it involves the use of online learning, digital content, and learning networks to support and extend student learning. In addition, this online course will be an opportunity for professional learning for teachers and possibly administrators.
During the creation of this artifact, I learned about establishing appropriate communication guidelines that will allow the particpants to know exactly what is expected of them for communication with the instructor and other members of their online class in discussion boards or email communication. To improve this online learning syllabus, I would have several peer instructors look over the syllabus to give me feedback on what doesn't make sense or unclear items. This artifact will definitely impact faculty development initially as educators complete this course to learn about various tools to use with their students to enhance student learning. I believe that after I teach the course one time, I would also be making changes based on the feedback I received from the participants on questions they may have about the syllabus. This impact of the course can be assessed by the evaluation results. The impact of the faculty development can be assessed through a second evaluation tool that could be administered several months after the course to determine how teachers and students are integrating what was learned in the online class. This evaluation could be designed for teachers and students to complete.
